A big change is about to happen. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has announced that ChatGPT will integrate an erotica feature for verified adult users. This feature will mark a significant change for the chatbot, addressing one of the most controversial aspects of AI. Altman shared this announcement two months after an interview, in which he had stated that the company had not launched an AI sexbot in the chatbot.
ChatGPT to Introduce Erotica Feature for Adult Users Soon
Sam Altman announced on X (formerly Twitter) that ChatGPT will soon have an adult erotica feature. He said the company had set strict rules for ChatGPT, but later realized these rules made it “less useful and enjoyable” for users who don’t have mental health issues. “But because this is a serious issue, we wanted to get it right,” he added.
Altman also said that OpenAI can now “safely relax the restrictions in most cases” because they have new tools to “handle serious mental health issues” while making ChatGPT better for users.
He then revealed that OpenAI plans to launch a new version of ChatGPT in a few weeks. Altman said this version will have a personality and behavior similar to what people liked about 4.0. He added that he hopes this personality will be even better than the one in 4.0.
“If you want your ChatGPT to respond in a very human-like way, use lots of emojis, or act like a friend, it should do that—but only if you want it, not just to make people use it more,” he explained.
Altman finished by saying that OpenAI will roll out age-gating more fully in December. He also confirmed that the erotica feature will be available for verified adults, following the company’s principle of “treat adult users like adults.”
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.

Now that we have…
Altman’s statement comes two months after he told Cleo Abram in an interview that they had not added a sexbot. It also comes around the same time that the parents of 16-year-old Adam Raine sued the company, saying ChatGPT played a role in his suicide.
OpenAI had first teased the erotica feature back in February 2025. On the Model Spec page, the company said they were looking for ways to let users and developers create erotica and gore in age-appropriate ways, as long as the usage rules were followed. They also made it clear that there would be limits to stop harmful content, like sexual deepfakes or revenge porn.
